The Martyrs' Shrine is located right next to the Grand Hotel. Completed in 1969, this majestic shrine was built in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the founding of the Republic of China, in the Sino-Japanese war and in the Chinese Civil war. Each spring and autumn, the president of Taiwan and leading government officials come here to pay their respects to the martyrs. Groups of overseas Chinese also visit the Shrine on Double Tenth National Day. Worth mentioning are the military police officers, who have been rigidly trained to guard the main gate and stand like expressionless statues and remain motionless by the teasing of observers. Tourists are amazed at this display of composure and flock to see the ceremonial changing of the guards, which takes place every hour.

The National Palace Museum, with its antique collection amounts to nearly 700,000 pieces whose age range covers almost the entire 5,000 years-old Chinese history, has made the museum the world's greatest and priceless treasure house on Chinese art. Its collection includes pottery, porcelain, bronze items, jade ware, sculpture, embroidery, calligraphy and paintings; each piece is a true curio. After admiring all those ancient treasures, you could stroll out of the Palace gate and take a rest at the lovely Chi-Shan Garden right ahead. The garden, consists of eight varied sceneries, was planned and constructed based on the spirit of " The Foremost Running Script" by Wang Hsi-chih, a famous calligrapher in Jing Dynasty. The garden epitomizes the elegance of Chinese gardens. It is worth paying a visit.

Located in the heart of Taipei , Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (CKS Memorial Hall) is a great building constructed in memory of the former ROC president, Mr. Chiang Kai-shek. Covering an area of 250,000 square meters, the architecture of the CKS Memorial Hall is inspired by the form of the Tientam (Altar to Heaven) in Beijing , while the four sides of the structure are similar to those of the pyramids in Egypt . With white marble as building material, the roof is covered with blue glazed tiles, reflecting the sunlight. The apex of the roof is gold in color that culminates the upsurge glory. A ground-level library displays photos and mementos of the late president's life.

The Memorial is encircled by a garden of 25 hectares, with everything being executed in grand dimensions. In addition to the landscaped gardens, placid ponds, popular gathering place, there is the National Concert Hall and the National Theater where world renowned musicians and play groups have conducted performance.

The Presidential Office Building is an important symbol for the people of Taiwan . The five-story structure is constructed in European Renaissance style and has a double-courtyard plan. The red-brick and gray-stucco facade and well-maintained front gardens give it a dignified, classical appearance. State ceremonies are held in front of the building on New Year's Day and National Day. The Presidential Office Building was announced by the President as "national historical site" in 1998 and was open for public tour since then.
